Jim Carrey stars as Joel, a man desperate to relieve the pain from a recent breakup with his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet). When he discovers that Clementine has literally erased him from her memory by visiting a company that specializes in memory erasure, he endeavors to do the same with his own memories of her. As the procedure begins he realizes that he doesn't want to live without any memory of their time together, and so must fight (within his own mind) to hold onto some reminiscences.
