After his sister's death, a man (Chris Evans) takes custody of her young daughter (Mckenna Grace) who appears to be gifted in math. Once discovered, the man's estranged mother (Lindsay Duncan) decides that she knows what's best for the child and sues her son for custody. SEX/NUDITY 3 - A man and a woman burst through the door of a house while kissing and fall back onto a bed (the woman lies on top of the man); the woman rolls away and says that she can't, but then climbs back on top of him and they kiss (sex is implied).
► A woman wakes up in bed with a man and she is covered with a sheet (we see her bare shoulders); she is startled when a young girl sees her with the sheet as she comes out of the bathroom. Women wear low-cut tops and dresses that reveal cleavage in several scenes.
► A woman tells a man that they cannot have a relationship (she is his niece's teacher) and he agrees. A woman tells another woman that she goes to a bar every Friday night hoping that a particular man will pick her up.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - An older boy in a school bus trips a younger boy carrying a project on a board; the boy falls and the board breaks dropping pieces on the floor and other children laugh until a young girl yells at the bully and hits him in the face with a book (we see the bully later with a very bloody nose). A young girl pleads with a man not to leave her, and she cries and hits him as he pulls away and leaves. A man picks a girl up and she hits him several times in the face and head while crying, and then hugs him and they both cry. A man becomes angry and throws something off a boat.
► A woman confronts a man in a bar and tells him that he is a liar. A woman argues with her adult son about the custody and care of her granddaughter. A man yells at a young girl and she storms out of the room. A young girl talks back to and yells at her teacher and her principal in a few scenes. A woman is aggressive while being questioned about how she raised her daughter. A man is told that a young girl does not want to see him. A young girl complains about having to go to school. A woman tells a man that if anyone comes to take a young girl away, "I'll smother you in your sleep." A woman says, "I'd kill a priest for a Benadryl." A young girl says of her cat, "Fred's not a killer, he's a lover." We read a newspaper headline that a woman committed suicide. A man talks about finding his sister dead on the bathroom floor after she committed suicide and blaming himself for not listening to her. We hear that a man was arrested for assault. A man says that his father died when he was 8 years old and that his mother turned her back on his sister when she got pregnant. A man tells his niece's teachers to "dumb her down." A young girl asks a man if there is a God and about Jesus and he talks to her about faith. A man tells a young girl, "You wished death upon me if I didn't buy you a piano." A young girl is sad and cries about her biological father not being interested in seeing her. We hear that a young woman attempted suicide and then when she tried again, she was successful.
► A man picks a girl up off the floor and carries her outside; we see them later walking and the girl hangs on the man and climbs on him like a jungle gym.
► Three cats are shown in cages as they await euthanasia in a veterinary office; a man takes them all home. We see that a cat has one eye and it is referred to in several scenes (one eyelid is permanently closed). A woman complains about the size of a cockroach she saw in her son's home.
