EDITOR'S NOTE - We're busy redesigning our site and there may be problems with logging in and searching. Also, most review pages are missing graphics and other elements. We decided to launch the site so you can at least still read the reviews, but please be patient as we finalize the new design.
An evil wizard (voiced by Rainn Wilson) uses Smurfette (voiced by Demi Lovato) to lead him to the Lost Village, where he can capture Smurfs and villagers to extract their special power for his own use. He is surprised by magical creatures and unexpected resistance when Smurfs unite against him. Also with the voices of Danny Pudi, Joe Manganiell, Jack McBrayer, Michelle Rodriguez, Mandy Patinkin and Julia Roberts. Directed by Kelly Asbury. Several lines of dialogue are spoken in nonsense syllables by insects and animals and have no translation. [1:30]
SEX/NUDITY 1 - A man kisses a large bird on the end of the beak for several seconds. A Smurf flirts with Smurfette by standing close, complementing her throughout the film, and finally hugging her. An elderly male Smurf and an elderly female Smurf flirt by standing closer and closer together and smiling as their eyes almost touch.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - The shadow of an evil looking predator bird becomes a flabby, cross-eyed vulture colored as a toucan; the bird and a cat chase several characters across a rope bridge that breaks close to the ground (no one is hurt) and the bird dives head first into leaves, gets up and roars; he flies into a log, dazed, and the log tips and hits him in the head (no injury seen). A large bird captures and places characters in a cage in a wizard's castle (the captured characters escape). A large bird captures several characters in a bag and flies away to a castle.
► A dragonfly screams and its swarm chases four characters, trapping them in ground foliage; they breathe several flames at the ground and the four characters are unharmed belowground in dark caves until many large eyes appear in a cave opening and become large fluorescent rabbits that carry the four characters out of the caves.
► Characters escape a cage and a wizard catches them in a fishing net, dumping them into a glass cauldron; he fights a female Smurf, who shoots electricity at electric bolts that shoot from the wizard's fingers and many glass vials and a cauldron shatter and liquids flow outside to make a river turn green; snapping fish chase the wizard, his cat, and his vulture down the bubbling river away from the camera (they appear, walking and arguing, during end credits).
► Liquids bubble in vials filled with liquids, and the room shakes and explodes in smoke and powder, leaving a floor and some equipment looking scorched. A small jar of liquid explodes into a little smoke, charring a wall and a table. A green liquid mixed in a large cauldron eats a large hole in a floor. Vials of solutions shake as a vulture runs on a treadmill.
► Several characters ride a raft on a river followed by a wizard and his pets on another raft; a large rock sails over the first raft and hits the wizard causing the second raft to overturn and dunk the wizard in the water many times as he calls for help; the characters on the other raft argue but saves the villains, only to be slapped off their raft and they go over a waterfall and the scene cuts to a beach, where they lie face down (they awaken and one spits sand out of his mouth).
► A band of female Smurfs gather bows and arrows, long-staffs and clubs to fight a villain; a fiery arrow glances a vulture, causing it to fall, scorched, into the arms of a man who tosses him to the ground after saying he is happy to see the vulture alive. A long-staff knocks an elderly character off a rabbit, but everyone is OK. Many spears come from above the frame and stick in sand, caging several characters in a teepee like frame while a dragon with sharp teeth made of leaves runs around them and separates into warriors wearing leaf masks; when they raise the masks we see reveal girls with purple hair.
► After a battle with villains, characters find that a female Smurf is now just a lump of clay; an elderly Smurf panics, shouting, "There's gotta be a spell" to help her and after giving up, he leads a funeral procession at night; we later see a lump of clay in the center of a wide circle of daisies and a many-tiered spiral of characters winding around it.
► A Smurf falls a lot, rolling down hills and falling from trees, landing unhurt. A character karate-kicks over a friend's head, but Smurfette kicks the friend in the groin and he says, "Oof!" as he crouches over in pain. A fish slaps a man's face three times with its tail.
► A wizard makes freeze balls that he throws at various characters several times causing characters to stiffen, become covered in ice and float around the air. A wizard and a vulture freeze dozens of characters by dropping magic freeze balls on them allowing the wizard to absorb power (lightning bolts) from the frozen characters. A wizard is frozen temporarily when a mouse pushes a freeze ball onto him. A character rides a sliding barrel into a tree trunk and is slightly dazed. Snapping fish with glowing eyes and long teeth jump and snap at the bottom of a man hanging from a tree limb over a river in a few scenes; the falls on a beach in one scene, shouts at the fish and slaps its face three times.
► A character punches a cave wall several times without creating a hole, then another character throws a small jar of super fuel at a wall and the jar explodes into a small cloud of smoke, but the wall is unmoved. A large storm brews outside a castle and there is loud and bright lightning. A character starts a small fire (we see a few sparks and some smoke) with a stone and a flint. In a later scene, small female warriors fire flaming arrows at a wizard, a cat, and a vulture, missing them. Two characters fall off surfboards for use in the air and hit the ground, unharmed. Smurfette paraglides with a leaf for a parachute and hits the ground, unharmed.
► During a Tai Chi session, a character knocks down another character accidentally. A boxing plant punches a character and a cat boxes with the plant later. A boxing glove on a spring pops out of a gift box and punches a character in the nose without injury. A man slaps his pet vulture and cat without injuries. A character punches a bird that is caught in a treadmill and is thrown off.
► A man and a female Smurf argue several times; in one scene, the man makes a series of evil but goofy faces. A rabbit whinnies like a horse, afraid of a roaring river. In a cage, a character says, "I'll kill the bird. Well, I'll knock him unconscious." Several characters close their eyes and weep as an elderly Smurf says, "She was the truest Smurf of all," during a funeral (we see her OK later).
► A man imagines that he changes into a super-wizard with thick long hair, a gold G on a chain, and sparks shoot out of his fingers.
► Flowers suck up and spit out screaming Smurfs, leaving trails of pixie dust as one flower burps loudly. Five daffodils stick onto a man's head, hands and feet. Small flowers kiss a character's face many times. Dragonflies appear and one of them sneezes soot onto a character; one of these insects picks up a character in its claws, puts it into a nest and goes to sleep on it. A man mixes substances in different cauldrons: yak toe fungus and cheese he says was in his underpants, then worm of wart and cat hair as the pot sparks the first time and shoots green fire to the ceiling the second time, leaving bubbling green liquid in the cauldron and a disembodied voice coming from the cauldron tells the future by rhyme (sounds like Jambi from Peewee's Playhouse). A character eats lunch and smears purple jelly over his face and chest. A band of warriors uses honey as glue to hold their soft-tipped arrows to targets. A cat sticks out its tongue and makes a "raspberry" sound. We see a chalk drawing of a small cloud and the word "toot" behind the bottom of a character standing at the board. A character starting a fire spits on the fire and we hear a hollow spitting sound and see no spit. Two small crabs skitter on a beach carrying a set of trousers.
LANGUAGE 1 - 1 mild anatomical term (butt), name-calling (Little Miss Yellow Hair, Papa-thing, vile blue rats, flying antipastos, crazy, stupid, rubbish, cheapo, gaudy, weird, blob, devil fish, dumb, big dumb bird, rotten apple, yammering), exclamations (put a cork in it).
SUBSTANCE USE - A super-fuel drink is used as an explosive, power is represented by green and white electrical bolts absorbed by a human and Smurfs during a battle, and several lab vials and beakers are full of bubbling liquids of different colors in several scenes.
