A working class lad (Freddie Prinze Jr.) from Cape Cod aspires to becoming a major league baseball player, but has to compete with college athletes who descend on his town every summer, playing for free and hoping they'll be discovered by major league scouts. Pulled this way by his blue-collar local friends, and that way by his wealthy teammates, he's also distracted when he falls in love with a rich girl (Jessica Biel) whose father objects to their dating.
